Hills and resorts are becoming a fad of late, they fascinate me. Lerruat Log Resort is located on top of Mlima Tamu hills at a place called Kumpa in Kajiado. Lerruat means a traditional makeshift Maasai bed. It takes around two and a half hours from Nairobi. It is quite a distance from the Kajiado-Namanga Highway to the hill top but the hotel arranges for pickups from there if you notify them in advance. We were quite lucky because as soon as we alighted we spotted one of the hotel cars going up and we went with them. Riding the back of a pick up remains one of the best road trip memories. You can decide to go up the hill as a mini hike 🙂
The view from the top is amazing. Breathtaking!
The owner used to visit the hills for years before an idea cropped in her mind to set up a hotel. She used to share roast goat ribs under an indigenous tree with locals for a couple of years. It used to be her weekend getaway. After she built the hotel, the indigenous tree now makes part of the modern bar centerpiece. The furniture is also made of logs.
The cabins are well-plastered on the inside with neatly overlaid logs on the exterior giving the resort a rusty but elegant look.I love their outside seats which give one a good view of sunset. It is a good chill spot to read over a drink. The shadows forming over the logs are such a beauty. They also have another section which looks like a watch tower with a 360 view of the plains. It can get quite cold though, so it’s best to carry something warm especially in the evenings.
For their meals I tried out their pizza, it was such a deal with the juice very freshly made. Portions were quite okay. Their menu has variety. Pizzas ranges from Ksh.900 to Ksh.1200. Cocktails range from Ksh.500 to Ksh.900. Fries go for Ksh.300. Delmonte juice for Ksh.500. Basically that gives you an idea of the pricing. I liked their centre piece flowers.
