Ever heard of K1 Club House/K1 Flea Market in Westlands and the Kahama Hotel at Ngara? Well it’s the Kahama Group of hotels and they have a new addition to the list; Small World Country Club – Athi River.
It is outside Nairobi yet soooo near, takes about than an hour to get there, it is just by the road too.
It is such a masterpiece, the architecture is on another level with the Swahili theme, it felt like I’m in Coastal Kenya. I call it Mombasa Ndogo (Small Mombasa)
The signage on the highway is very clear, they even give directions on where to make a turn .
The entrance is such a statement, all white with some plants making a welcome. There is a board that shows the offers available for the day.
As one waits for check in they offer some complimentary welcome juice while on the pallet seats with colourful throw pillows at the reception.
Next to the reception is the boho chic bar area with Beer (Keg) barrels as their seats. It is a very vibrant place and has such a party mood with bold art on the wall.
They also have the pool table and Foosball. Outside the bar is a cool chill out with some animal paint stools.
A pathway leads to the restaurant which has this Swahili theme. The walls have wooden spoons as the decor while seats are made of pallets.
There is fire pit where they make their traditional wood fired pizza and have a buy one get one free offer on Thursdays.
They also set up a candle lit dinner in the restaurant, it was such a mood on Valentine’s day. Their breakfast is one of the best I have ever had with an assortment of different delicacies. I loved the fluffy pancakes and waffles. The juice was also very fresh and natural.
The pool has a DJ section with music playing as one goes on with the swimming. It is such a view at night.
I like the egg sitter and the swinging bed. They serve meals and drinks by the pool too. At the pool bar you can watch your drink being made and sip it by the underwater seats by the bar. My favorite part at the pool was the sunset striking the bamboo shade with the blue water in the background. Next to the pool there is a children play area with swings and sliding zone. All are catered for.
Still there, they have an outdoor lounge with views of the plains in the horizon. It is very spacious with pallet seats and vibrant pillows. Sunsets are amazing from here.
A path leads from the pool to the magical white house where their rooms are. The view at night is magical, I like how the lawn lights up. The grass there is also well fed, the lush green against the white building is such a combo. The corridors tell an 80’s tale while the tiles were inspired by an old farmhouse in Naivasha.
The furniture in the 30 rooms are all handcrafted at their workshop with 30 different designs each room having a style of its own. The beds honestly make such a statement and their choice of accessories compliments each design. The bathrooms also have different marble styles. Talk about taking time to bring out the best in each, this is what we call dedication and the art of excellent work. The rooms have mini bars with a wide selection of drinks. They offer room service too at no extra charge. I liked how they give guests hot water bottles at night just to add some warmth, if you go there alone you are covered with some source of heat during the cold hour of the night.
They have some cottages too
- Swimming where they charge Kshs.500 for adults and Kshs.200 for children.
- A game drive to a conservancy which is such a deal especially in the evenings where one gets to see a variety of animals and walk by them. This they charge Ksh.600 per head.
- High Teas which they host on some Sundays
- In the past they have had activities such as Festive Hand Tied and Cooking Course. Follow them on social media to be seeing these deals in time. They also have amazing offers such as 50% off on bed and breakfast rates.
